When I begin my day with meditation, I am beginning with a committment to myself to try to live my day with the intention of making small changes that will allow me to begin to integrate my new year’s resolutions into my daily life. I know these resolutions are important but when my life is busy they are easily overlooked. The only way that I know to make these deep changes in my life is by trying to carry a spiritual thread throughout my day.

In order for me to be more patient and to make exercise a priority, I need to make changes in myself on a deep level. Unfortunately, these changes will not happened naturally or automatically. This made me look back on my personal resolutions for the new year and think about what have I done to bring these changes into my life. It has been almost a month since we began our new year of 2012 so, in terms of our physical body we have already experienced a major change.

At the end of this time we have a new layer of skin holding us together. I was remembering a workshop last year when we talked about how a person is continually shedding their skin every 25 – 45 days. Let’s all take some of Lou’s advice to heart. Treat others like you want them to treat youĦ. Make people happy – tell them they look niceĥ. I don’t know about you, but if I live to be 101 I want a peaceful mind and happiness like Lou. I have shared Lou’s timeless wisdom below.Ĥ. Like The Practice, his instructions are simple. He is often asked about the secret of his long life, so he has a little “business card” that he shares with people. It was a pleasure to meet Lou because he is healthy, vibrant, and finds great joy in life. It was an incredible weekend.Īt the end of the retreat a dear friend from our weekly Meditation Class brought her very charming 101 year old father to meet everyone. This past weekend I, along with Barb and Adriana, attended a retreat with James Finley on St John of the Cross entitled Only Love.

Like the legacy of a peaceful life, you never know where these seeds will take root. There is no way of knowing where the seeds will take root. Like each of us, at the end of a dandelion’s life it has been transformed into something that looks very different from how it began. It is filled with vitamins and nutrients and can be either cooked or eaten raw. Just like our spiritual practices help us through difficult times and give us strength, in holistic medicine the dandelion is used to treat many ailments. How many times have you seen a dandelion growing in between rocks or in an area where everything around it seems tired and withered? The dandelion’s deep root system allows it to survive, even thrive in extreme conditions. This simple flower can grow just about anywhere. Like many other blessings in our daily lives, if we are not aware we will miss its beauty and its strength. A dandelion is simple and easy to overlook because it is found all around us. After much thought we decided on a dandelion. What would best represent our intention in undertaking this work that was so close to our hearts? It was important to find an image that represented how we see the spiritual life and what we wanted to share with a larger community. We spent a lot of time considering different options. When we began our not for profit Peaceful Mind Peaceful Life we needed to choose a logo.
